University of South Alabama Engineering Students Awarded Hargrove Foundation Scholarship

Mobile, Ala. – The University of South Alabama (USA) presented Emaleigh Sargent and Shawn Morris with the Hargrove Foundation Engineering scholarship at a luncheon on Friday, May 1st. The Engineering Awards Luncheon, hosted by USA’s College of Engineering honored recent scholarship recipients and donors.

Emaleigh Sargent, a junior, is an electrical engineering major in the USA College of Engineering. Sargent has worked as an intern at Hargrove Engineers + Constructors since 2012. As part of the Hargrove Electrical & Instrumentation Design Team, Sargent has worked on a number of client projects including recovery boiler gas burners, chemical plant power system and utilities, and retrofit projects involving field instrument installations, control valves, panels, control logics, transformers, and motor control centers.

Shawn Morris, a junior, has a degree in mathematics from Birmingham Southern College, and is currently pursuing his engineering degree from USA. Morris is active in ASCE, Reformed University Fellowship, Associated General Contractors of America, and National Society of Black Engineers. In 2014, Morris was the recipient of the MACE Raybun Scholarship.

“This is another example of the Hargrove Team giving back to the community and supporting the development of our future engineers in the Mobile area as well as the Hargrove family,” said Dennis Watson, P.E., and representative for the Hargrove Foundation.

The Hargrove Foundation established a continuing engineering scholarship for USA’s College of Engineering, in conjunction with the Mitchell-Moulton Challenge Match, in 2014. The Mitchell-Moulton Scholarship Initiative springs from Mobile native, Abraham Mitchell’s commitment of $50 million to the University. Of the $50 million, $25 million is a matching gift challenge to support undergraduate scholarships. Mitchell has agreed to match, dollar-for-dollar any gift to undergraduate scholarship endowments. The Hargrove Foundation’s initial contribution was $35,000.
