The Hargrove Foundation Sponsors Cooking Matters Program for the Bay Area Food Bank
(Mobile, Ala.) – Thanks to a contribution by the Hargrove Foundation, more than 100 youngsters will have the opportunity to participate in the Bay Area Food Bank’s Cooking Matters program for children. Cooking Matters is a hands-on cooking class for children ages 10 to 14 years old. The program’s goal is to teach youngsters how to prepare nutritious meals and have fun at the same time.
Food Bank nutritionists teach their classes on site at locations that have kitchens, like the Boys & Girls Clubs. The Food Bank provides recipes, food and all of the kitchen utensils needed for meal preparation. While instructors provide basic instructions on following recipes and food preparation, kids do all the work. The hope is that these youngsters will take what they learn in Cooking Matters home with them to help provide healthier meal options for their families.
